Week 11
This week I downloaded the LowMan model and rig. I animated it to jump up and down and then take a bow. For the jumping I mainly animated his torso but for the bow I also animated the man's arm and hand. I also watched some samples from "Notes on the development of images in motion Part 2". First I watched "The Enchanted Drawing". I thought it was pretty neat. It had someone draw a person and as time went on the picture would change. For example the person's expression would change throughout the video. I think this was done by cutting the camera and changing the picture which made it look like the face was alive. This is a pretty old fashioned way to do animation but it's very interesting to see even if I know how it works. After watching that I watched "Felix Revolts". This was made when animation was starting to become more like the 2d animation you could see today except with many limitations. For example this cartoon had to be made in black and white and while it had sounds they couldn't add in any voices so they instead added in little speech bubbles for the characters. This little cartoon was about Felix the Cat looking for food and then going on strike with the other cats in order to get human's respect and food. This animation like most animations is made up of a combinations of drawings kind of like when you render pictures in Maya and have to combine them to make your animation. I always find it entertaining to go back to old cartoons like this as they are
usually animated very loosely. I actually think the animation style is called rubber hose because the characters move like a rubber hose. Either way there's always a certain charm to this kind of animation that I enjoy.
