Week 9
This week I made some new models to complete the exercise. I spent a while modeling Kirby, a Nintendo character, and his star from the games. I started with a circle and then extruded many parts to make arms and cheeks. I didn't extrude Kirby's feet though as I modeled and textured the feet separately and then combined them to the Kirby model. I spent time making parts of Kirby different colors so he would look close to what he normally looks like. For example for his mouth I made the texture more red so it stood out from the rest of him. The star took some time to model as well. I started with a circle and extruded areas to make a star. I made it yellow like in the games. I also added a ground which I was originally going to make green like grass but I decided to make it blue so it looked like Kirby was flying through the sky. I then added many spot lights all pointing at Kirby from different directions. Most of the lights I made a shade of blue except for the light directly above Kirby which I made more pink to match the color of Kirby. I also added a volume light right above the star to give the star more lighting. I made that light more yellow to match the star. I also watched the "Living Paper" animation by Julius Burton. I though it was very impressive how they were able to incorporate 3d animation into the real world. It was basically seamless. A lot of work goes into animation and they also had to account for the animation being in a real world setting. I thought it worked very well.
